Yahoo! honors Eyeglass.com

Sarasota's Eyeglass.com which sells low-priced, brand eyeglass frames, has received the Yahoo! "Top Service Award" for an Internet business.

Jim Morrison, Eyeglass.com's founder, has been experimenting with selling eyeglasses over the Internet since 1995. In previous ventures, he designed and received patents for eyeglass frames sold exclusively through the Internet.

"The virtual store is especially viable in this industry. Consumers question why a basic pair of prescription eyeglasses has to cost $180, and the answer has simply been store overhead and profit," Morrison said in a statement.

The Yahoo! award gave the company "the highest overall rating for excellence in customer service." Privately held Eyeglass.com Inc. was founded last year. The Internet site is at www.eyeglass.com.
